5. How Long Does it Take to Complete a Home Study?

In Iowa, home studies are valid for a year after being completed and must be updated if your circumstances change or it’s been a year since the completion of your home study.

These post-placement visits are follow-ups to your completed home study. A social worker will stop by after placement and asses the current status of you and the child.

In Iowa, there is a requirement of three post-placement visits. The first takes place no later than 30 days after placement, the second no later than 90 days after placement and the third is to take place before requesting the consent to adopt.
